Wallwisher is a website which allows users to post messages on an electronic bulletin board. This website gives you the ability to post a question and easily get feedback from your co-workers or students. It works just like whiteboard hanging from your refridgerator: you write a question, then you receive a responses all over that board, in no particular order.
Here are some suggestions for using Wallwisher:
- Brainstorm ideas before a unit (What do you know about Electricity and Magnetism?)
- Get ideas from staff about best teaching practices.
- Kids could post “sticky notes” recommending their favorite book.
- Answer a specific question: What types of mammals live in Washington State?
Your task for this week is to create a Wallwisher board (once in the site, click on "Build a Wall" and simply follow the instructions). You may choose adults or students to respond to the wall that you create. If you want your students or parents to add/respond to the wall you create, you will need to post the link you create on your SWIFT site. If you want other adults to respond you could simply email them the link.
Assignment: In your comment below, please post the URL of your Wallwisher board along with any ideas or comments you might have regarding use of this tool.

I think that this would be a good tool... but, I was having trouble editing my wall and ended up having to create a new one. I'm wondering if you have to create a new wall every time you want to have a new question.

I have created a Wallwisher wall. It is a simple webpage where we all can post our messages easily.
So simply go tohttp://www.wallwisher.com/wall/Cragar and post your message there.
Happy Posting!
Rachel Cragar
My class had a great time posting to this! I think that it will be a lot of fun.

I think this tool would work better for a staff discussion or something more along those lines. I couldn't use it with my kindergarteners and no topic came to mind that I wanted to hear from the parents about.
And I do have to say it was super easy to create one! I just don't know if it's possible to edit one after it's already been created? I didn't have to create a login to make the wall, and I didn't see an edit button...

I am using this for my students to post what they are curious about in Astronomy.

I think this is a really cool idea. I posted a question about favorite 5th grade memories and what my students are most looking forward to about middle school. I'm going to post it to swift and let them test it out in computer lab tomorrow. I also think this would be a great tool for getting parent input for party planning, etc. The only thing I'm worried about is the time commitment for proofing posts before they go up. I would definitely want to keep an eye on that for obvious reasons.

I enjoyed setting this up. It did seem easy to use. I look forward to playing with it some more and trying to post it to my SWIFT site. I also like Kim's idea about the parent planning thing. I may try it for that with some of the end of the year event planning. I look forward to spending some more time with this. I have never seen it before and it seems like a fun tool to use.

I thought I'd let my kids and husband weigh-in about what they want to do this summer. We can then vote on the top 3 ideas! I also think posting favorite websites on a topic would be a fun wallwisher.

Cool idea. I am beginning to think that in a few more years paper will not be manufactured because there will be no need for it. :)

Oh this is very exciting! I am done with KWL charts for a little while. We will begin our Structures of Life science unit on Monday and rather than create a class chart, I will have students get on the computer to post things they "know" about what fruit is and how it grows. They can go on periodically throughout the unit and continue to add additional knowledge with post-it notes in order to show what they have learned and communicate what they have learned with their classmates. I have already posted this to my Swift page so that students can easily access the site. I am very excited about this one!

I agree with others -- a cool site. It would be fun to watch the sticky notes pop up as a class is using the netbooks. I can use it with my reading groups and parents to recommend books. It was easy to post a website too -- although I'm still waiting to get my own sticky approved by me. ?

This is a great tool! I don't know how I would use it for my preschoolers but I feel that it could a great tool to use with parents because a lot my parents have the same questions and I end up answering all of them several times. If I were to use this tool I could have parents reference it for one answer from me or from another parent :) Thanks You!
